Brief description of Bačka Topola Municipality and Vojvodina region

Backa Topola can be found in the centre of Bácska in Vojvodina with the area of 596 km2.
The community consists of 23 settlements: 1. Pačir; 2. Stara Moravica; 3. Bački Sokolac; 4. Tomislavci; 5. Karađorđevo; 6. Mali Beograd; 7. Zobnatica; 8. Mićunovo; 9. Novo Orahovo; 10. Obornjača; 11. Kavilo; 12. Svetićevo; 13. Pobeda; 14. Gunaroš; 15. Bagremovo; 16. Bogaraš; 17. Njegoševo; 18. Bačka Topola; 19. Bajša; 20. Panonija; 21. Srednji Salaš; 22. Gornja Rogatica; 23. Krivaja.
The loes surface dominates on the ground, so the soil is very fertile. 4 artificial lake can be found.
The North-South motorway, other main roads (Senta-Sombor, Bečej-Bajmok, Bačka Palanka-Horgos) and the Beograd-Subotica-Budimpešta railway line cross the town. Bačka Topola is 32 km far away from Subotica, 40 km far from Senta and Bečej, 45 km far from Sombor and 71 km far from Novi Sad.

The population of the community is 38.242 (59% Hungarian, 30% Serbian, 1,4% Montenegrin, 0,8% Russian, 0,5% Slovakian, 8,3% others). The town of Topola has 16.600 inhabitants.
The most important sector in the economy is the agriculture, 47,46% of the GPD comes from it. The contribution of other sectors is smaller (30,68% industry, 11,34% trade, 3,14% transport and communication, 2,98% construction industry, 1,89% financial services, 0,81% tourism, 0,7% communal services, 0,66% small industry, 0,04% education).
The development of food, processing, textile, leather and feed industry is provided by the agricultural production. The most important companies in these sectors are the Zitko JSC, the Topola slaughterhouse, the MIK Moravica, the Zobnatica, the Doža Đerđ and Pobeda agricultural cooperatives. The TERMOVENT foundry and the electronical instrument producing INOMAG operate in the metal industry.

The region of Topola provides lot of touristical opportunities: the town has thermal water and several lakes, which are suitable for recreation. The settlement of Zobnatica is famous for it’s stud farm, whih is the oldest in the ex-Jugoslavia. The international tournament is organized here every year. The othe important event is the “Topola Days”, which is organized with cultural programmes, procession and fireworks eyery year on 15th of September.
